I MUST change my review. Upon further study, this book does not contain Book(s) of the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th of Blackstone's Commentaries.
AND it does not contain Chapter the Seventeenth: Of Guardian and Ward of Book of the First: The Rights of Persons...THE ONLY Book of the Four included in this "publication".
I do not know how this ever came to be sold as any complete part of Blackstone's writings.
Regret this purchase - and I bought two!

Commentaries on the Laws of England; Volume 1 Sir William Blackstone 17231780 9781371013523 Books Reviews

For the lawyer who forgets the roots of our laws, this is an essential element to garner understanding of where we came from and where we should return. The legal profession has traveled out of bounds for much too long and we need clear thinking people in the law profession to bring it back. Since it seems that the chase of the "almighty" dollar puts everything else in second place, we need to remind ourselves why we have laws and not how we can best manipulate them to our advantage.
I bought and read the paper books before I owned a computer. This book is more than just important to American history. It is about implementing "LONANG", the laws of nature and nature's God.
These books were the backbone of American law in its early years. Dated? Yes. However, from these books come the freameowk for our greatest President's greatest speeches and writings. Lincoln wore these books out seeking to master them.
This book gave me a good understanding of the basis of the law. That and the basis of looking at the common courtesy and personal behavior.
Brand new, in great condition.
The best treatises on good government.
Blackstone's language takes a little time to adjust to, as does the character for "s" used other than as the first letter of a word - it looks very similar to an "f". However, the sonorous language - the book is actually transcripts of speeches - is quite captivating. As a history reader it gives a unique view of the development of society in England as represented by the changing of laws to suit. I was especially interested in the explanations and development of the feudal system and its successors. An interesting man, William.
